Awards, Movie, & Something New...

Gabriel's 3rd grade awards ceremony was yesterday. He received the following awards: a trophy for getting over 100 AR (accelerated reader) points, a certificate for being on the Principal's honor roll (A's) all year, a certificate of achievement for reading, a certificate for citizenship, and a certificate for being the best speller in his class. We are extremely proud of him for all his accomplishments! I really couldn't have been blessed with a better kid.

After the awards, we checked him out of school and headed to see Star Trek. Let me say, this movie was great. Watch out Star Wars, there's a new show in town... lol! Not new, but new to the movie screen. I never thought in a million trillion years I would be into sci-fi stuff (thanks Alberto). If you don't know, Alberto is a HUGE Star Wars fan. He has so many collectibles it's a bit crazy. Gabriel has even joined in and has pretty much every Star Wars toy ever made the past few years. I've been to numerous sci-fi conventions and have now seen a number of sci-fi movies. Star Trek is my favorite so far. And, it doesn't hurt that Captain Kirk is quite a cutie! The characters were great, the action was great, and the overall story line I really enjoyed. Live long and prosper!

There is this commercial we always see on tv about the best steak sandwiches in Oklahoma. It's a little country place call Del Rancho. The commercial is really hillbilly/redneck looking with this little boy wearing a cowboy hat talking in this really strong country accent about going to Del Rancho and having the best food. Even though it's not appealing to watch, it is catchy and it got us in the door. It was unlike anywhere I'd gone before. When you go in you seat yourself and there are menus on the table. When you are ready to order you pick up the phone that is attached to your booth, push this big black button and someone answers to take your order. And, the phone is old school! I haven't seen phones like that in at least 20+ years. It's hilarious. Alberto and I went back and forth a little bit about who was actually going to talk on it. Of course, it was me. The people there were super friendly and the food was okay. They did have the best onion rings though. Not sure if it's a place I will go back to, but I'm glad we tried it.
